Joe DeFelice brings almost 20 years of government, nonprofit and political experience to Goldstein Law Partners.
Appointed by President Donald Trump in 2017 to serve as the Mid-Atlantic Regional Administrator, for the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD), Joe oversaw all of HUD’s program areas in the states of; Delaware, Maryland, Pennsylvania, Virginia, West Virginia and the District of Columbia. Additionally, Joe was asked by HUD Secretary Ben Carson to serve briefly as an Acting Assistant Deputy Secretary, overseeing the Regional Field Offices in all fifty states across the country.
In these roles Joe utilized his passion for economic development to work with developers, elected officials, nonprofits and other stakeholders to create strong, sustainable, and vibrant communities and quality housing. Joe had oversight of a $39.1-billion-dollar portfolio of programs and services and nearly 500 employees.
Prior to his tenure at HUD, Joe was Chairman of the Philadelphia Republican Party, President of the Mayfair Civic Association, and was involved in other service oriented organizations including the Mayfair Community Development Corporation where he served as Chairman. Joe was previously an Adjunct Professor of American Government at both LaSalle & Widener Universities.
Joe received his Juris Doctorate from Widener University School of Law in 2004 and is licensed to practice in both Pennsylvania and New Jersey. He also graduated from LaSalle University, Class of 2000, with a B.A. in Political Science, and was named a Captain of the University’s Football team.
Joe’s main practice area will be in real estate, economic development & government relations with an emphasis on utilizing federal Opportunity Zone benefits.
Joe currently resides in Northeast Philadelphia with his wife Rosemarie, a high school administrator in Philadelphia, and his two sons Joey, Jr. & Christian.
